What God Won't Do
It's another day on Life and Success Management! Thanks for joining us today.
Continuing on GET GOD INVOLVED, we are discussing what God will not do for us. This topic is important because there are people who have never dared to ask God for something definite before. They may have 'prayed' before but not the kind that they expect an answer. Others have tried and felt disappointed in God; they say "this prayer stuff doesn't work."
God is not an instrument you use when you like and then dump. God is a Person-- the most important Person we all have and need to relate with. We need to understand Him more and more to relate well with Him and enjoy Him in our lives. There are things God won't do. He can if He chooses so but He doesn't and we need to get used to that instead of wishing He will change His mind!
As we continue, let me quickly mention that there is a significant difference between trusting God, testing God and being lazy (or foolish sometimes).
Some will say, "Don't test God," when they hear that someone is being specific in prayer. That isn't testing God. Testing God, according to the Bible (Exodus 17:1-7) is questioning God's presence with you because of a current rough situation ("Is God truly with me?"), forgetting His previous goodness to you. It also means unnecessarily trying to see what God will do-- intentionally creating the situation (like Jesus was tempted to jump down from a very high place because God promised to protect us just to prove He is the Son of God. He didn't need to prove He is who He is so He said, "It is written do not put the LORD your God to test." see Matthew 4:5-7)
Not everybody knows that if you jump into a hungry lions den, even if your name is Daniel, you will not come out the same again, that is, if you ever come out alive! The Daniel in the Bible did not create the situation. He just didn't compromise what he has been doing before in pleasing God.God in turn protected him, doing what he could not do by himself because Daniel believed in God (see Daniel 6:3-23).
If you deliberately create negative situation by not taking appropriate responsibility for your life and those under your care or by disobeying God, God will not stop the consequence from coming. When the consequence comes, however, if you acknowledge your fault and pray for His intervention, He will intervene (Psalms 107:10-21).
In the same way, God will not do for you what He has enabled you to do no matter how long you pray. For example, God will not think for you and He will not plan your time and budget for you; that's what He gave us our brains for. Planning belongs to man, it is the result that belongs to God. (See Proverbs 16:1and 6, Luke 14:28)God gave us our mouth to ask questions, our eyes to observe, if we don't use them and we just keep praying, we may feel disappointed in God but that won't change Him.We can only trust Him for correct perspective and interpretation but we must play our part.
If you pray for promotion or increment in salary you must not avoid taking greater responsibilities because that will be contrary to your prayers. You mustn't avoid taking the exams when you say you believe God for success.
There are other times when instead of obeying God's word, we keep asking Him to do what He commanded us to do. Sometimes it is because of ignorance but seeking knowledge is also our continuous responsibility. God doesn't do what He ask humans to do. If you have food and you see a hungry man, you are the one God wants to use to solve his problem. If you pray that God should provide food for Him, He will not do more than what He has done-- giving you the food and making you aware of the person's need.
Lastly, God will not fail you. Don't give up the opportunities you have to know Him more. He will not let you down.
To be successful in life and enjoy our lives on earth has more to do with our choices than we often realize. That is why praying for God's wisdom is something we must continue to do for ourselves and others, especially those under our care. God is never the problem, our ignorance, indecision or indiscipline often is.
Till next week, have a great time!
